Körber to provide fully-automated warehouse for Renova in Portugal

Renova, a Portugese company that produces paper goods, has announced plans to construct a new tissue paper manufacturing unit in Torres Novas, Portugal, in partnership with Körber Supply Chain.

The two have a commercial relationship dating back to 1993, with Körber providing automation solutions for the company’s intralogistics needs, in addition to tissue manufacturing technologies used during production.

The most recent collaboration is hoped to progress Renova’s finished goods storage capacity and operational performance through the implementation of a fully-automated warehouse, specifically through the introduction of an automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) for pallets.

The new solution is intended to cover a wide range of tissue products and be integrated at the site with the Körber Warehouse Control System (WCS).

Luís Saramago, marketing director at Renova, said: “For an international company like Renova, it is much more complex than showing temporary results.

“It depends on a set of long-term sustainability factors, including the consistency of its philosophy and organisational values.

“We have chosen Körber to optimise our processes’ efficiency, as well because we believe in Körber’s Ecosystem and its supply chain market knowledge.

“Due to the increase of our production capacity in the last years, we decided to invest in a new fully automated warehouse.”

What’s more, the new warehouse will reportedly be connected to all existing operational areas through a high-speed monorail system.

To cope with the new production activities, upgrades will also be implemented across the existing tissue reel automated warehousing and transport systems.
