Five minutes with Simon Adams, Managing Director, WERMA (UK) Ltd

Can you please share a little about yourself with our visitors?

I am the MD of Werma UK Ltd which I set up 10 years ago as the UK subsid of the leading German Industrial signal technology manufacturer.  I am multilingual and I spent all of my career in the sales and latterly management of engineering and electronics manufacturers based in the UK, Germany and Switzerland.

Can you please tell us why you chose to exhibit at Robotics and Automation 2017?

I chose to exhibit here mainly as a result of our success at IntraLogisteX where we showed for the first time our latest process optimisation systems.  It seems that this show’s demographics will also be ideal for our systems, so no pressure here!

What will you be sharing with visitors to the exhibition?

Three systems, SmartMonitor, an andon light wireless machine and equipment monitoring system – essentially a simple and low cost monitor of downtime, reaction times and reasons for down time.  AndonSpeed is another andon light based call for action system allowing the member of staff to call for help/assistance/material etc without leaving the workstation.  Wireless based, the system logs and tracks call outs.  The 3rd system is StockSaver, a new KanBan replenishment ordering system designed to do away with the need for Kanban cards and milk rounds it automatically flags up movement of stock in and out of lineside flow racks and provokes replenishment orders automatically – again wireless based with comprehensive data logging features.

What do you feel are the biggest challenges facing the industry at the moment?

The major challenge is the need to increase efficiencies, reduce wastage and become more Lean to improve competitiveness and make the business more sustainable.
