Five minutes with Jim Farquhar, Sales Director, Conveyor Systems Ltd (CSL)
Can you please share a little about yourself with our visitors?
Conveyor Systems Ltd offer an array of engineering expertise and a wealth of experience in materials handling solutions however complex, tailored to suit customer’s individual requirements in a wide range of industries. CSL are able to provide the most up to date technology, from motorised roller conveyor offering zero line pressure accumulation and low energy consumption, to high speed sortation systems. We also offer the most compact spiral elevator on the market, as well as a choice of inter floor platform elevators. CSL can provide solutions from 50 products per hour up to 5000 products per hour.
CSL provide a complete automated turnkey materials handling systems, including design, installation and commissioning conveyors with integrated controls and software. We also incorporate full project management to co-ordinate our mechanical and electrical conveyor installation teams in-line with the customers overall project program. As part of our design process, we identify the right solution not only in the selection of the appropriate hardware but equally as important the controls package. This can range from a simple PLC, incorporating a HMI screen for local control right up to a SCADA and WCS solution which can be integrated with clients WMS..
CSL offer simple, high quality modular conveyors to integrate and interface with other OEM machinery such as packaging and label application machines, wrappers, palletisers and other associated equipment.
Can you please tell us why you chose to exhibit at Robotics and Automation 2017?
With the importance of conveyor systems within automated warehouses and production facilities, attending this show to offer advice and design options was an obvious choice. The show organisers also have a proven track record of organising information rich exhibitions for which we have previously exhibited meant the Robotics and Automation Show was a ‘must do’ event.
What will you be sharing with visitors to the exhibition?
CSL see this as a meet and greet opportunity to introduce ourselves to a market place which may not yet understand how CSL can assist in their project needs and development. CSL will be sharing our experience and knowledge to those seeking to integrate conveyor technologies with some of the combined automation products on view, or perhaps guidance on a standalone conveyor requirement.
What do you feel are the biggest challenges facing the industry at the moment?
The UK market is experiencing quite a resurgence with high levels of activity / investment seen across many sectors, regardless of any Brexit outcome. Most businesses that rely on a manual process or invest heavily in personnel will see the biggest challenge is solving any labour shortages that may arise in the coming years once Brexit is implanted fully. Automation is seen as one of the clearest solutions to this possible issue, and as technology advances, then the returns become greater. One other issue is the procurement of machinery from outside the UK and the volatile exchange rates. It is hard to predict what the final costs of machinery investment actually will be as leadtimes are commonly several months, and during this period exchange rates yo-yo. It is hoped by everyone in the industry that the exchange rate issues will flatten out once a definitive exit plan from Brexit has been achieved.
